Matthew 2:1-12

       1) The Magi’s journey represents the longing of all humanity to find true hope and meaning. (vs.1-2)

Jeremiah 29:13

       2) Herod’s reaction reveals the human tendency to resist surrendering control to God’s authority. (vs.3-8)

John 3:19-20

       3) The Magi’s joy and worship model how we should respond to Jesus’s presence in our lives. (vs.9-11)
            

            - The gifts they brought foreshadowed and symbolized aspects of Jesus’s identity and mission:

            - Gold: Represented royalty = Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16)

            - Frankincense: Represented divinity = Jesus is the Son of God and our High Priest
                     (Matthew 27:54, Hebrews 4:14)

            - Myrrh: Represented His humanity = Jesus humbled Himself and took on the form of man to ultimately
                     sacrifice for us (Philippians 2:8, John 19:39)

       4) The Magi obeyed God’s direction, showing trust in His guidance over human demands. (vs.12)
