Idolatry: When Good Things Become God Things
IDOLATRY:
Corinthians 10:14, 1 Corinthians 10:15-22, 31
Paul gives 2 reasons why we should flee from idolatry.
It’s inconsistent with the gospel.
It’s an offense against God.
Sports are a good gift from a gracious God given to us for the glory of God.
When a good thing becomes an ultimate thing it becomes a destructive thing.
Good gifts make lousy gods.
Idols always disappoint, and they ultimately destroy.
Ways we should examine ourselves and our relationship with idols.
Examine your heart.
Examine your thoughts.
Examine your conversations.
Examine your emotions.
Examine your use of money.
Examine your use of time.
Practical ideas to glorify God with our interests:
1. Use your interests to draw attention to God’s greatness, not yourself or others.
a. When we keep God in His proper place everything else falls into its proper place.
2. Use your interests to show appreciation for God’s love and grace.
3. Use your interests to grow in Christ.
4. We must prioritize what really matters in eternity over what seems to matter on earth.
